Volunteers are critical to the mission of Meals on Wheels! Meals on Wheels currently utilizes the time & talents of 65 “regular” and “substitute” Volunteer drivers.
Daily our Volunteer drivers deliver hot meals to the homebound in Prince Edward County, Monday-Friday between 11:15am and 1:00pm. They also deliver dignity and compassion to those who are often isolated from social interaction. Meals are NOT delivered on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. An extra cold meal (to compensate for the holiday) is delivered on the business day preceding the holiday. Our Volunteers come in many forms: ages 18-80; individuals & groups (i.e. Delta Zeta Sorority & Southside VA Family YMCA); town & county residents; professionals, students, clergy, retirees; and they all love helping others! Meals on Wheels celebrates our Volunteers annually at the Volunteer Cookout on the last Sunday in September. |
